  • Copenhagen Synagogue: Included in our 90-minute tour, this architectural gem showcases the vibrant Jewish history of the city. (Note: The Synagogue is closed on Fridays and Sundays.)
  • Danish-Jewish Museum: Extend your experience with a 3-hour tour that includes a visit to the Danish-Jewish Museum, Mitzvah. (Closed on Mondays from June 1 – Aug 31, and Mondays and Tuesdays from Sep 1 – May 3.)

We had a wonderful experience with our guide, Michael. As a member of the secular Jewish community in the US, I was very interested in how a small Jewish community addressed diversity of religious practices and views. Michael was extremely knowledgeable and thoughtful and open to sharing his perspectives. He filled in many of the details related to the history and experience of Danish Jews that we had not learned through our other tours and visits (visit to the Museum of Danish Resistance and a excellent walking tour through Politically Incorrect Tours). Our guide, Pia Litwar, took us on an amazing tour of the Great Synagogue in Copenhagen and the Danish rescue of the Jews from the Nazis during WW II. Because her parents and grandparents were rescued, she wove an emotional and intimate portrait of the fishermen who ferried Jews across the sea to safety in Sweden and of other Danes who supported the rescue effort. She and her children and grandchildren are members of the synagogue and Pia also taught there, so she has a very special understanding of the history of the synagogue and of the history of the Jews in Copenhagen. We also had a visit to the synagogue that had been attacked in 2015. As an add on, we went to the town of Dragur, which was so interesting because they helped Jewish people survive WWII.
